The Charm Pocket Bag.
The initial design inspiration for the bags originate from “Bok-Ju-money”. “Bok-Ju-money” is a Korean traditional drawstring silk or cotton pouch embroidered with various auspicious symbols that are used for holding coins, which are believed to bring fortune. I wanted to not only use the design trait of the bag, but also the physical weight of the bag to covey the social change of the currency changing from coins to cash to cards. As such evolution took place in the society, the weight of the bags also have decreased from the past. In trying to mimic the weight, I tried to use heavier (shouldn’t this be lighter ..?) materials in embellishing the product. Another notable trait of this bag is that it is convertible. It can be carried around the waist, across the body, on the shoulder, and inside a jacket or a coat like a pocket. A poster/book accompanies my work to showcase the materials used. The book is made so that it would be flipped from top to bottom with a similar ratio as a cash in order to execute the meaning of my product in the most effective way.
